The Bristolian Breakfast

The Bristolian Cafe is a longstanding cafe on Picton Street that was taken over by new owners a few years ago. They seem to be hanging on to the coat tails of previous owners excellent reputation and doing an average job of it.

The cafe is lovely and cosy and the menu is varied and offers free range and local produce. It is really busy but a little cramped. Sitting outside in the sun is lovely and you feel like you are in the heart of quirky Montpelier.

The issue is the customer service. The staff seem miserable and unfriendly and when I ordered the veggie breakfast I asked that the eggs be anything but fried. They were bought out fried with the message that 'the chef is too busy to do anything else'. The coffee was pretty small as well. The food itself was OK. One small bit of toast and a single veggie sausage, mostly slimy fried mushrooms and beans. The spinach and tomato were a tablespoon sized amount. All of it was tasty but for £7.99 I think it is overpriced and the customer service left a bad taste in my mouth.

The feeling of the cafe is nice though and it is an independent that is using local free range organic produce so I would come again but I think they really need to work on their front of house.
